The information below is an excerpt from a summary that can be found on the website of the American Textbook Council. The website states: “The American Textbook Council is an independent national research organization established in 1989 to review the history and Social Studies textbooks used in the nation's schools.” To read more about ATC’s reviews of textbooks and how they treat Islam go to http://www.historytextbooks.org/islam.htmThe biased and politically correct treatment of Islam in school textbooks is very alarming because of the impact this is having on both the knowledge base and attitudes of American children.
| | Social Studies for Dummies | | An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before,
but had once failed an entire class.--------------------------------------------That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK,
we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering,
blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All failed, to...
| | | | Help! Need lesson plan for 2nd grade social studies for my "Frog and Toad" unit! | | Hello! I am currently in college for education and I am putting together a unit for the children's books, "Frog and Toad". I need suggestions for a social studies lesson plan. I am thinking of designing one around community involvement or learning about how their communities function (i.e. what type of community do you live in? Urban? Suburban? etc)...but what book would go with that if you know the Frog and Toad series. These are second graders. Also, if you can think of any accomodiations for the Autistic/Asperger child that would be awesome!Thank you so much!

| | Is it necessary to impose lot of syllabus of social studies at high school level | | I prepare & motivate students for Indian Institute of Technology entrance examination right from 9th standard. Those students who are good in mathematics/science are suitable for preperation for such examination. While going through their syllabus I find that they are taught many books ubder social studies. These books are of Civics, Geography, History, Economics and disaster management. This puts lot of burden on students of that age group of 9th and 10th level in CBSE high school level examination. Lot of time of these students is consumed in cramming these subjects. What I feel is that these subjects might be necessary but either it sould be taught up to 8th level or with reducing the syllabus upto 10 level. All those who are concerned about their children are requested to give their opinion. | |
