Reading Body Language
It's natural to greet friends with a smile and a wave. When you do this, your face and body work together to show your friends that you're happy to see them. But what happens if your face and body send mixed messages? Would someone be more likely to believe the look on your face or the way you hold your body? Scientists have recently tackled these questions. They found that when a person is looking at your face, she might not believe what she sees if your body language doesn't match the feeling that your face shows. Studying such mixed messages is nothing new for scientists. Previously, they had found that the tone of a person's voice can be more important than the words that are spoken. For example, most people tend not to believe a person who says in a flat voice, "I'm so excited." When it came to emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language, most scientists suspected that the face was more important. To test if this was true, psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated faces and isolated bodies (with faces blurred out) that showed anger or fear. They also showed pictures in which angry or scared faces were...

where ae you looking while you are listening?
Do you look at the face of the person who is talking to you? Or do you turn your good ear toward the person and look away? If someone is telling me something that is important or taking a long time, I look down, that way I am just listening to the words and not reading any body language. If I get distracted reading body language I may miss what the person is saying to me. Do you have this problem?
Have you ever did an extra credit project for your child?
Have you ever or would you ever do a project for your child last minute to help them out? My son is in 6th grade and skipped to 8th grade Math, Reading, and Language Arts and he has a huge load of homework every night. So I helped (and I did just help) but I really just wanted to do it for him. He's just so tried with all the work. What would you do?
Reasons why you should kick the TV out of your room
"If you think television may not harm you when you use it inside your room, think again, there's a lot more damage that this can cause you more than you know".Raise your hand if you have a television in the bedroom? How about the kids' bedroom? It's not hard to put a television in every room, especially if you keep upgrading to sleeker, flatter, sharper television sets. I don't have kids, yet I have three televisions in the house, and yes, I have the obligatory flat-panel display in the bedroom because I'm a news junkie who likes to watch CNN in the morning. It seems to me that lately, researchers are focusing on the effects of having a television set in the bedroom. In a nutshell, having a TV in your sleep sanctuary is bad, very bad, but we already knew that. I guess what we may not have known is how bad it really is, especially when it's in the kid's room. So to bring you up to speed, I've gathered the latest findings hoping to shed some light on this bad habit.New York Times and IO9 have good articles on the subject so I'll start there. Here's what they say in a nutshell:TV makes you dumb: In a 2005 study of six Northern California schools, 70...
Members with 0 resopnses on the list for 3 days....will they see their problem?
I don't think so! There are so many discussions where the person has a bunch of discussions that have been there for days and yet they keep doing the same thing! There is one who has the same subject words but the discussion changes, lots of those one liners and of course discussions that are only links for referrals. I have replied to quite a few discussions actually asking how mylot works! Don't they realize that every site has a faq's listed somewhere? How can anyone start out on a site without reading what it is about? I know this shouldn't bother me and I should mind my business but I sit here shaking my head. How dumb can some people be? Even if English isn't their main language they should at least be able to read what the site is about right? If they can start discussions and respond they can't be that bad at reading the language. Do you think members who have 0 responses eventually figure out what they are doing wrong and start writing good discussions? Why does it take them so long to figure it out?
Can cat's understand what we're saying?
Sometimes I swear my cats can understand what I'm saying. I'm not sure. Maybe they're just reading body language. For instance, when I look at my big cat and ask him if he wants milk, he'll run over to me. Normally, he just sits in one spot and ignores me. Do you think your cats can understand what you are saying? Some people say that dogs can learn to recognize certain words and phrases. Maybe cats are the same. What do you think?
