| | Are _you_ smarter than a fifth grader? (It's a new show that's coming on TV) | |
Fox network is apparently creating a new show called "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" that will air possibly in the spring. Adults will be tested in a quiz based on questions from from elementary school textbooks.Would you go on such a show? How worried would you be that you might be made to look silly? I mean, I think that what kids are taught in elementary school today is pretty far advanced from what was taught even 10-15-20 years ago. And it's so easy to have by now forgotten a lot of what we learned that far back in school...Would you watch this show when and if it airs?Feel free to answer any of the above questions, or just give your thoughts!^_^News story link here:http://www.davesdaily.com/out.php?id=23776&url=http%3A%2F%2Fapnews.myway.com%2Farticle%2F20070121%2FD8MPBCJ80.html

| Kids outsmart adults on '5th Grader' | | NEW YORK - How tough could this be? That's what Fox reality show guru Mike Darnell thought when the people pitching "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" asked him to answer six questions they would use on the game. Three wrong answers later, a hit show was born. ADVERTISEMENTThe new game has passed some tests of its own on the way to humiliating adults and making kids across the country feel smug — the 12.2 million people who tuned in Thursday helped the family friendly show win its time slot.Contestants try to answer questions from elementary school textbooks while real fifth graders stand by to offer help. Unless you're an accountant, the math is the most frightening: On one show, the pint-sized experts easily got the answer when host Jeff Foxworthy asked how many sides are there in a trapezoid.Trapezoid? What the heck is a trapezoid?"Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" premiered less than eight weeks after Darnell heard the initial pitch from Mark Burnett and Zoo Productions — a blink of an eye in television terms."It's this unbelievably relatable idea of adults not being able to help their kids with their homework. Every parent goes through it at some... | |

- Orange you glad I didn't say banana? And one more for now, a cute little song, of which I cannot remember in its entirety:
Ms. Lucy had a steamboat
The steamboat had a bell
Ms. Lucy went to heaven
The steamboat went to --
Hello operator
Give me number nine
If you disconnect me
I'll kick your fat --
Behind the 'frigerator
There was a piece of glass
Ms. Lucy sat upon it
And cut her big fat --
Ask me no more questions
Tell me no more lies....
And it goes on, but, as I said, I cannot remember the rest!Do you remember any of these? Which are some of your... | |

| 3 Weeks Of Testing For Elementary School Students | | My boys are in 3rd and 5th grade, every year they do standardized testing. This goes on for three weeks, every day from 8 to 12. I think 3 weeks is way to long for testing, maybe 1 week at the most. They are basically wasting this time for learning. Because when the testing is done, they have lunch and a break. Then they get out of school at 2:30. When I get the results at the end of the year, I have no clue to what it is saying. I am basically only concerned about their report cards and whether they are passing or not. Do your children go through this much testing? | |

| Great memories in elementary school | | Do you have some great memories in elementary school? Those were the innocent years when we'd play on the grounds after the last class. I was also very active in declamation, oration and acting contests. That was the beginning of my self-discovery that I got a lot of promise. I couldn't forget those days when I would lead the daily aerobics after flag ceremony. Also, I was a gymnast from Grade 3 to Grade 4. I graduated Salutatorian which made my folks so proud. I was always an academic achiever until college. I would join different kinds of contests which I thought I could excel in. Ultimately, my parents put me through college without a single complain. The beauty about it was that I didn't have to pay tuition fees because I was a scholar. | |
