Prisons...what do you think?
I was just looking into some information, and was doing a search about state prisons. I was suprised at how many links I got referring to state prisons being 'filled to capacity'. Minnesota, Texas, California to name just a few I came up with. I know there are a myriad of suppositions and reasons behind this and I can't even imagine trying to touch on that at this time. What I do what to touch on is this idea. What do you think about how prisons are supported state by state? Do you think prisons should or could be self supporting entities in terms of caring for their inmates. Ok, for example, could they have their own farms/gardens attached to the facility? Should they have their own chickens and cows and process and produce much of their own meat and dairy products? What about producing their own clothing, shoes, etc? One point I am trying to make is that prison shouldn't be a place where the prisoners just sit and we 'hope' they will reform, but is it? What is going on inside there that there are so many repeat offenders returning to prison? Do a search on that one. Do you agree that caring for themselves, and good honest work, might help reduce repeat offenders?...
policemen and women
Are there any policemen or women that are mylotters? About 7 years ago I became interested in joining the police force. Every time I see a recruitment drive the thought pops up again in my head. What is life like in the police force?

Final Update S.C. Serial Killer
Following news release July 07, 2009 http://www.gaffneyledger.com The Gaffney Ledger posted a picture of the killer and of the press conference held by local officials confirming that the man shot early yesterday morning in North Carolina was indeed the same person who killed 5 people in South Carolina over the past week.Law Officers reported that the weapon used to injure an officer when he attempted to apprehend the suspect had been confirmed as the same weapon used to murder five innocent victims. Police also found items taken during the course of the crimes in the possession of the dead man. I am happy to know my friends in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and other surrounding states are now safe from this man but offer that we should all be watchfull during these hard economic times as some people may be moved to desperation and do things to survive they may not otherwise do. I offer my prayers and condolences to those who lost loved ones in this tragedy and look forward to seeing the criminal justice system explain why this career criminal with a twenty five page rap sheet was allowed out on parole. Has this tragic event affected you?Share...
South Africa World Cup 2010... and the shooting's already started
Only 70 miles from a 2010 World Cup football stadium, a farmer's wife and a boy aged 13 learn to defend themselves with lethal weapons. They say thousands of white landowners have been killed by Zimbabwe-style marauders; their black rulers accuse them of belligerence and right-wing tendencies. Aidan Hartley reports on the war of words you won't read about in your World Cup holiday brochure.Bella wakes. She hears a strangled, gurgling sound. It’s the dog, she thinks.‘Peter, there’s something wrong,’ she says to her husband. Noises emerge from the room of her mother-in-law, who’s 98 and confined to a wheelchair. It’s 1am. Bella gets up and walks out of the bedroom. In the hall she sees a young man who at first she thinks is her son. Except he’s black, wears a balaclava and is pointing a gun at her.‘He comes for me,’ says Bella, her hand before her tear-stained face.‘He’s going to shoot me! I trip as I run back to the bedroom. Peter comes to the door but he has nothing in his hand, no pistol. I hear a gun go off. I hear my mother-in-law screaming. I lock the door and telephone my son. I tell him: “I think they shot Pa!”’Two men are outside the bedroom window...
South African lesbians raped as a 'cure'?
South African lesbians are suffering rapes by men trying to "cure" their homosexuality, in what is becoming one of the most common hate crimes against gay women there, a new study said on Friday. The study by the anti-poverty group ActionAid said that women living in townships in Johannesburg and Cape Town are reporting increasing attacks and murders by men committing so-called "corrective" rape.South African women generally face a staggering risk of rape in a country with one of the highest crime rates in the world.Almost half of South African women will be raped in their lifetime, according to the report, which said 500,000 rapes are committed each year.Of every 25 men brought to trial for rape, only one is convicted, it added. But lesbians are being singled out by men who think that the rape will change their sexual orientation, said Zanele Twala, head of ActionAid South Africa ."So-called 'corrective' rape is yet another grotesque manifestation of violence against women, the most widespread human rights violation in the world today," she said. One support group in Cape Town said it is responding to 10 new cases of "corrective" rape every week, in that...

Criminal Justice
This is an essay I had to write about for a scholarship for the University of South Carolina. Just wanted yalls opinion.Since September 11th, 2001, the Criminal Justice system has confronted new demands and conflicts between its obligation to uphold the constitutional rights of citizens and the neccessity for protecting the homeland. Some would argue that the meaning of justice must change to meet these new demands. Does the meaning of justice change with time, or does it remain the same regardless of time and place?Questions: Does the meaning of justice change with time, or does it remain the same regardless of time and place?abuse. Unemployed Philip Thompson, 27, amassed nearly a quarter of a million indecent pictures of children, including thousands in the two most serious categories. He was jailed for a minimum of 45 months after pleading guilty to 27 child abuse charges at Teesside Crown Court in Middlesbrough. Police said undercover officers have identified 360 suspects worldwide, made more than 50 arrests and saved 15 children from abuse during the long-running investigation. Changes urged to protect public from fugitives..
Federal lawmakers and advocacy groups are calling for new laws and grants to close gaps in a criminal justice system that allow hundreds of thousands of felony fugitives to flee and evade capture. What changes do you think would work? Are laws being passed in you area?
