At Will employment was originally intended to protect both non-contract employees and employers in the event should either wish to terminate the employment. However, in most (But NOT all) states this means that an employer can terminate the employment for any reason they desire, as long as the employee doesn't fall into a group of people protected by Equal Opportunity laws. They can terminate you because they don't like your counsin's sister's uncle, or because they don't like it that you don't wear make up - and most states have no legalities that prohibit this.Do you think that At Will employment is a good idea? | |
| | I am being DEFAMED. | | I just got home, and I started reading my responses on MyLot, and I noticed that someone, in my "Why are Guys so Insensitive?" discussion "hinted" that I COPIED and PASTED, my story off of some other website! I am so UPSET that I am being defamed for something that I would never do, that I just had to mention this to everyone, because I realize that many people here are actually copying the work of others. Also, in Business Law, (which is another thing that I have studied), if you do not respond to allegations against you, that will mean that you accept them. WHICH I DO NOT. I have never in my life, been a cheater, a plagiarizer, or a liar. So for those of you who believe these allegations, I suggest that you read the discussions I have posted and also the responses that I have made. And for those that have gone through the same thing, while the plagiarizers have not, I say don't let them bring you down. To those that have support for my situation, I say thanks. | |
| | Taking For-Credit Classes Online, Think I Goofed! Has This Happened to You? | | Last year, I went back to school to learn MS 2007 and take some business classes. So far, I've been a solid "C" because I've had to work and take care of home as well. I skipped last fall because a series of events would have made it near impossible. If I were to skip Spring, then I would lose seniority in choosing classes.Anyway, I ended up taking Business Law though I had my heart set on Business English and Communications. I figured it would be informative if nothing else since I don't seek work in the legal profession. After reading the first few pages, my head was like 'Ouch'. Though I got the jist of it after the second reading, it was like jumping into 6ft of water as a way to learn how to swim (I know some say this is the best way to learn swimming but it's also why some become afraid to get in water).Right now, my plate is pretty full. Besides writing freelance, I have a p/t merchandising job, do volunteer editing for a non-profit. Honestly, I want to finish what I started (certificate in Business) but am pretty satisfied just writing, running business and doing admin/accounting support as a job. Have you been in a situation where you felt you should do... | |
| | We've all had it happen, someone takes umberage to our response... | | I realize the subject has been beaten to death, but here it is again. Why do the members feel so free to chew out a person that they don't agree with? I just got chewed out because of one of my responses from quite a while back. I was accused of being undereducated on the subject that I responded about. That I was busily spreading false information and scaring people. Hopefully the majority of the people here on the Lot realize that I do research my responses to discussions. I have a huge library of books (I'm a collector of various books on a plethora of subjects) including collecting, health, animal health, herbs and more...including business law. I also attend college part time because of my own health issues. Come on people, before you pass judgment on a person's response and decide that the person is undereducated in a topic, check them out first. If you don't agree, simply state you don't agree and don't get so dog gone huffy and tell the person that they are undereducated (stupid?) about the subject and that they are only scaring people. It isn't fair---you don't like being judged, so darn it don't judge others!!! | |
| | I am back in college...........third time around. | | I started attending Kaplan University on May 13th, 2009. I am studying Medical Transcription. I have completed my first term. I got a high "A" in Academic Strategies and an "A-" in Medical Law and Ethics. I will be starting Composition II and Medical Terminology on the 29th. I am enjoying this college experience so much.This is my third time to attend college. I went to college the first time in 1975 and the second time in 1989. I have studied Accounting, Business Law, Computer Operations, and a variety of other subjects. Yes, I have earned my AAS degree in Micro-Computer Operations. | | no exams today! yeay!!! | | I was supposed to have my final examination on Business Law later this afternoon. When suddenly two of my classmates sent me identical text messages saying that all the exams are suspended and will be moved on MONDAY. I am sooo happy! At least I have more time to study for my exams tomorrow. Plus, I have time to rest later and take a little nap. I am just so happy. | |

Well it was a memory of what I was taught in Business Law. The real question is what is a contract? How do you define what a contract is?I have just been engaged in the execution of a contract, it is between my employer and the health insurance industry along with the services provided by the clinic. If the transaction was paid in full by my employer and all I had to do was shuffle the paper work then I had to complete my end of the transaction[b]NOT[/b] paying was out of the question. I had an obligation to pay. So what I wrote can be used in court if this is a case of more spousal abuse and clearly it is. The question then becomes can I get this case heard by a judge? Well that might be a little more or less difficult. Remember one of the things I have divulged several times is that I am already involved in a Federal Court Action.So to say that I was wrong to do that or for me to go visit the clinic, that is all water over the dam, I can't do anything about what... | |
