| Is there a great need for American Sign Language Interpreters in the schools??? | | I live in a rural part of Oklahoma and would really like to go back to school to get my B.S. degree in ASL Interpreting and work in the public schools with the kids. What I'm wandering is if there is a demand for this in the smaller towns, or is this only something you can find in larger cities such as Tulsa, OK or Oklahoma City? Any information on this will be greatly appreciated. | |
| | American Sign Language | | My son and I are taking lessons on sign language from a friend of mine. I have a friend who is deaf that I have known since high school, and have always promised her that I would learn sign language. Well, we just had our 20 year class reunion, and I still do not know sign language, but now am starting to learn. It is very hard remember so many signs, some of them are so close together, but this is something that I would like to do so I am learning. Does anyone else know sign language? Did you have trouble learning or is it just me? It seems so hard to remember, but we are only in our fourth week, so maybe it will just take some time. | |

| American Sign Language - Should We All Learn It? | | I learned earlier last year that American Sign Language is the third most spoken language in the U.S. (after English and Spanish, respectively), and since I have always had a passion for sign language, I decided that I really need to learn it.But it got me to thinking: in today's day and age, it's good to be blingual, and really, it's necessary. When I was in school, I chose to take French (I lived in Detroit and thought at the time that being able to speak with my French-Canadian neighbors was most important...should've taken Spanish), and now I am seriously considering signing up for a local ASL class. I do not personally know anyone who is deaf, but in the event that I meet someone or in an emergency, I would love to be ready and helpful.Plus, it's a beautiful language. My question is, do you think that signing is important enough for people to learn in general, and that signing should be offered in schools as a "foreign" (I use this term loosely) language?I.C. | American Sign Language | | I'm looking for as many resources as I can possibly find. I'm teaching my youth group and Sunday School class how to sign some songs. Currently we have gotten Silent Night done, but I'm looking for videos of the songs being signed so that I can learn them and then teach them. If you can help or know of some sites that will help I would greatly appreciate it. I prefer only christian, praise and worship, or christmas type music....Thanks for your help! | |
| | Does anyone know ASL (American Sign Language)? | | I learned sign language when I was 12 years old. There were two people in my school who were deaf, and I wanted to be able to talk to them. That was 10 years ago, and I still know sign language very well. Anyone else know sign language? | |

| American Sign Language? | | Does anyone here know American Sign Language? If so, can you recommend any websites that teach you signs? Do you use ASL with your babies/children? I am learning sign language and I am using it with my son. :) | |
